Good day, and welcome back to Joe and STO! I hope this post finds you doing well…and perhaps toward the end of Event Campaign 3 if you did a Buyout or two.

Raises hand…

Yeah, laziness got me, but also anticipation for the expected Temporal Recruit re-run sometime between now and the end of the year. I wanted to go ahead and get the Event Campaign done so that if the Temporal Recruit rerun launched during the next Event, I’d be ready to go.

I only spent $11 USD to Buyout half the current Event (Defense of Pahvo), then kept running the Event daily to the end of the Event’s run. If you’re doing this completely free, it’ll take partway into the 4th Event at earliest and potentially all 5 Events at slowest. (Both of which are fine. This is intended to be a year-long thing.)

Now, there’s been a lot of confusion about how the prize will be awarded, so I wanted to break down step-by-step-by-step how to claim each of the Grand Prizes (depending on your eventual choice). Aside from claiming the Grand Prize choice box itself, I did all this on the Tribble testing server. That should be an exact mirror of how it’ll work on Holodeck. If for some reason it’s not, I’ll make edits to this post.

CLAIMING THE GRAND PRIZE CHOICE BOX

When you complete the Event Campaign, the “Events” tab will blink, and the “Event Campaign” side tab will have a blinking green exclamation point beside it. You’ll also see “CONGRATULATIONS!” right over the Lobi Store button. (Annoying, I know, but it’ll go away once you claim your prize.)

Once you hit claim, you’ll get a Bound to Character Epic-looking box like this (circled in green) and the long tooltip describing your options:

That’s the only part I did on Holodeck (the live game server), was claim the grand prize and check the tooltip. The rest happened on Tribble, a test server (which explains how I got “3 rewards”, I copied enough characters over to do each prize selection once).

When you want to claim your choice of prize, either double-click the box or right-click [left-click for the lefties] and select “Use.”

Once you use the box, you’ll be presented with your 3 options:

For any of the options, it works like a Mudd Choice Pack: click the radio button next to your desired option, then click “Accept.”

From here, I’ll cover each option in its own section.

OPTION 1: T6 Premium Ship

If you want the Premium T6 Ship, here’s the tooltip you can preview before selecting it:

The list is quite extensive, but notice it says “Character Bind on Pickup,” and I know what some are already saying “It was advertised to be account-bound until it was opened! What in the world!?”

Calm down! We’re getting there.

Click on the radio button next to the box icon for “Event Campaign III Prize: Premium T6 Starship Choice,” then click on “Accept.”

You’ll get a character-bound ship box:

When you open it, here’s how the ship list will present itself, with me already highlighting (but not selecting) the Inquiry Battlecruiser (I don’t know why two ships are highlighted here, but Inquiry was the intent):

Notice the tooltip box says, “Account Bind on Pickup.” The ship box you pick is the one that’s account-bound, not the initial prize box or the “Event Campaign III Prize” box.

I chose the Section 31 Heavy Battlecruiser by going down to its entry, clicking its radio button, and clicking “Accept.”

Here it is in my inventory:

To make sure it was truly Bound to Account, I tried moving it to my Account Bank on Tribble:

SUCCESS! It is an account-bound box!

Let this be a note to those who want to save a ship for a specific character they’re wanting to make in the future, if you know for sure what ship you want, go ahead and open the “Event Campaign III – Reward Choice” into the “Event Campaign III Prize: Premium T6 Starship Choice” box into the ship box of the ship that character will want, then stash it into your Account Bank. Just be sure you have an Account Bank slot open before you do this! If you don’t yet have an Account Bank, you can buy 10 slots for 1,000 Zen.

Now the real test…will it actually move over to another character? Well…

Yes! I was able to move it.

Once the ship is on the character you want having it, go ahead and open it like any other ship box. AT THIS POINT, THE SHIP IS THAT CHARACTER’S SHIP AND CAN’T BE UNDONE.

Now…let’s say you don’t want one of the Lockbox/Promo ships. What are your other options?

OPTION 2: TWO (2x) 100% Discount Coupon: Tier 6 Ship

Your 2nd option is 2 C-Store ship coupons. As you open the “Event Campaign III – Reward Choice” box, instead click the radio button for ” TWO (2x) 100% Discount Coupon: Tier 6 Ship” at the bottom of the list, then hit Accept.

(I don’t show the radio button fill here, but it’s the same as the Premium T6 box above.)

Your inventory will now have 2 coupons that are Bound to Account:

These coupons, like their unbound privately-sellable counterparts, are only usable on traditional C-Store T6 ships.

NOT INCLUDED:

  • Mudd’s Store T6 ships (not in the “Ships” side tab of the C-Store)
  • Legendary Ships (not individually listed)
  • Lockbox/Lobi/Promo ships (not listed in the C-Store aside from the Benthan Assault Cruiser or your reclaimable selections from previous Mudd Choice Packs)

Because they’re from a free Event, they also can’t be used on anything listed in the “New Items” side tab of the C-Store. However, as new traditional C-Store ships go into the “New Items” tab, ships eventually rotate out of that tab, at which point you can use these coupons on those ships.

While I can’t show how to use them (due to being on Tribble, where the C-Store isn’t available), I can tell you. When you see a C-Store ship you want, if your coupon is good for it (again, not Mudd’s, Legendaries, or “New Items” listings), you’ll see another “Z – 0” option. Select that and, after a confirmation prompt, it’ll use up one of your coupons instead of your Zen balance.

OPTION 3: 1,500 Lobi

This is the top-most option in the list but probably one on few players’ radar. That amount of Lobi can get 1 Lobi ship (900 Lobi) and 3 pieces of Lobi Store space gear (200 Lobi each x 3 = 600 Lobi; 900 + 600 = 1,500 Lobi). If the Lobi store goes on a discount (we’ve seen as steep as 50% at one point), the purchasing power of all that Lobi goes a bit further. Even at a standard 20% discount, that allows you to use 400 Lobi more easily, buying a couple more pieces of Lobi Store space gear and perhaps a piece of ground gear.

If you want the Lobi, click the radio button next to “Lobi Crystal x1,500” and click “Accept.”

You’ll then see 1,500 Lobi deposited directly into your Inventory, and it can be moved around your Account like any other Lobi stack you already have.

UP NEXT, LEGENDARY ROMULAN WARBIRD BUNDLE VALUE!

My next blog, probably going up tomorrow night, will be the Legendary Romulan Warbird Bundle’s valuation. It won’t be as in-depth as previous versions as there are no Lockbox/Lobi/Promo items for which to account. Everything’s got a C-Store price, and AstroAlligator’s done a bit more thorough breakdown I’ll borrow for this. I hope to have it out by tomorrow night so everyone who’s still on the fence can have all day Wednesday to finally pull the trigger, wait, or decide it’s a no-go.

Until (hopefully) then, take care and enjoy the last day or so of this Event!

    1. There are a couple places:
      * For the currently-running event, there’s a Buyout in that Event’s side tab. I forget exactly where, but it’s in that window.
      * For expired Events, it’s in the C-Store under its own tab, perhaps “Event Buyout” or something similar. I’ll try to look on my PS4 version (it’s done none of the Events so far so it has C-Store Buyouts for the previous Events).

Both should prorate your Zen cost and Event Campaign Progress Points reward based on the fraction of the Event you completed.
