Hello and welcome back to Joe and STO! We have a new Legendary Bundle, and this time it’s an Anniversary edition, meaning it’s bigger than anything we’re likely to have this year. In fact, this is the big bundle for 2021, as AmbassadorKael notes on Reddit:

“[…]This is the big Legendary Bundle for this year. There may be other Legendary Bundles this year, including one I think you’ll like based on the reaction today, but they will be on the scale of the Romulan, Discovery and Mirror Bundles. There aren’t any plans for a ten ship bundle, I’m sorry.”

(First off, I feel some player reaction is being too harsh on this Bundle. I’m not staunchly defending it, but I’m also no going to hate on it.)

What I’ll do in this series is look at the contents, the value, and perhaps the ships since there are only 4 “new” ships in this Bundle (versus 10 in last year’s iteration).

Today, we’ll look at the base contents (including 1 ship that’s already known) and the real cost of this Anniversary Bundle versus the Zen it’ll take to get it.

THE BASICS: Zen Cost and Currently Publicly-Known Contents

CONTENTS

This year, we’re getting a Bundle of 4 ships: 2 KDF designs and 2 Federation designs. Legendary ships are essentially re-releases of older ships with all of the following for their specific class of ship:

  • Different classification and layout/stats than any previous version of that class of ship.
  • All previous consoles, weapons, and Tier 5 Starship Traits.
  • One new Tier 6-level account-unlocked Starship Trait.
  • All previously-released ship skins for that class plus one new, unique skin.
    • NOTE: Any new skins are not automatically granted to Legendary ships. For example, the Legendary Temporal Flight Deck Cruiser (“Temporal Discovery-era Constitution”) did not get access to the Mirror Warship’s new nacelles, saucer, and color scheme.

Legendary Bundles tend to come with extras. For the 10-ship Bundle, we got 10 Ship Slots (so one character could have all 10 ships available at Shipyards, if they wanted). This year, we get more.

“OKAY, COME ON! WHAT’S IN THE BOX!?”

Sheesh! Impatient ones today. :p

Here’s all we’re getting that we’re publicly aware of:

  • 4 Legendary Starships
    • Two KDF designs.
    • Two Federation designs.
  • 2 100% Off T6 Ship Coupons
    • NOTE: If these work like any other “giveaway” Coupons, you’ll have to wait for anything in the “New Items” list to rotate out of that list before you can use this Coupon on that ship.
    • NOTE 2: These are only good on single-ship purchases, not anything that’s only part of a Bundle or in Mudd’s Market.
  • 6 Ship Slots
    • Makes sense as we’re getting 6 ships: 4 of their choice and 2 of yours.
  • 6 Experimental Ship Upgrade tokens
    • This lets all the included ships (including the 2 you “buy” from the C-Store) be T6-X.
  • 11 Ultimate Tech Upgrades
  • 11 Master Keys
  • 11 R&D Promo Packs
    • These are the kind that open up to a box of Research & Development materials and either 10 Lobi or a Tier 6 Infinity Promotional Choice Pack.
  • Gre’thor Targ Combat Companion (800 Zen)
  • Items Exclusive to This Bundle:
    • Worf holographic Bridge Officer.
    • Outfit – Boreth Monk Robes
    • Title – “Go to Eleven”

We already know one ship in the Bundle: a Legendary B’Rel Bird of Prey. This one’s a full Pilot ship like the Legendary Warship, meaning it gets the Pilot maneuvers other full-Pilot ships get. I’ll probably cover this in a future post.

PRICING

This Bundle will be base priced at 25,000 Zen. It’ll go on sale initially at 25% off, or 18,750 Zen.

REAL COST

We see 18,750 and jump straight to “$187.50,” and that’s a great estimate. However, during normal days there are Zen Charge Bonuses at the $50, $100, and $200 levels.

If we’re at full price, and under normal circumstances, if we want 25,000 Zen we’ll need:

  • $200 (23,000 Zen)
  • $ 20 ( 2,000 Zen)
  • TOTAL: $220 with no Zen left over.

If we’re trying for it at the initial sale price, needing 18,750 Zen from scratch, under normal circumstances we’ll need:

  • $100 (11,000 Zen)
  • $ 50 (5,300 Zen)
  • $ 20 (2,000 Zen)
  • $ 10 (1,000 Zen) OR convert enough Dilithium to get 450 Zen (currently at 500:1, that’s 225,000 Dilithium)
  • TOTAL: $170 if you can convert enough Dil to get 450 Zen (with all Zen used) OR $180 if not with 550 Zen remaining.
    • Interesting to note, for another $20 you could just get the $200 bundle, giving you 23,000 Zen, leaving 4,250 Zen to use as you see fit.

“But wait just a moment,” you say. “There was a Zen Charge Bonus when last year’s Bundle went on sale.” And you’re right. That reduced the effective cost of the Bundle. However, I’ll counter that they’ve since gone to specific levels of Zen being targeted for Zen Charge Bonus (or Discount on the Epic Games Store and consoles). We don’t know for sure, so we’ll have to see when this releases if there’s anything other than the standard Zen Charge Bonus and how that may affect the cash price of this Bundle.

Odd…somehow the end of this got cut out or it didn’t save properly. SOOO…until I can get to Part 2, enjoy STO!
