Yes, if you’ve been living under a rock or been away from the game for a while, you may come back to hearing, “You can fly your Bird of Prey on a Federation character!,” or, “Act like you stole some Federation tech. You can fly a Constitution on a KDF character!”
But you may not have heard or understood how you can do that. I’ll show two ways:
FREE: Have a Level 65 Klingon Defense Forces Character
Here’s the easiest, though maybe grindiest (depending on your method), way to get your Fed characters some KDF ships or vice-versa: Play a Klingon Defense Forces character.
If you have a Klingon Defense Forces character, meaning a Klingon who was made as a KDF character or an Orion, Gorn, or Alien (or there may be others, but I’m not well versed on what’s an option under KDF), and if that character gets to or already is Level 65, they’ll see something like this on logging in (mine started fading out, I was almost too late to catch it):
This is I guess technically an item that removes the faction restrictions of practically every Federation and Klingon ship (if not also Romulans and some Jem’Hadar). You should also notice your Admiralty Roster expand for the new-to-your-character! Klingon ships for everyone! Federation ships for everyone! Previously-locked Romulan ships for all (supposedly)!
PAID: Two Routes
If you’re a fully Federation player who doesn’t want to step one foot into the boots of a Klingon Defense Forces character but wants their tech, you have two options:
OPTION 1: Pay 2,000 Zen (or 1,000 Zen during the 11th Anniversary [1/26 – 2/25]) to get the faction restrictions removed.
To do this, go to the C-Store (or “Z-Store”, depending on which name you came up with), hit the “Featured” tab, and look for “Cross-Faction Flying Unlock.” Credit goes to Steve on Twitter for the pic, which shows he’s a Federation-only account as he was able to buy it from the C-Store at the time he took the pic (If you already have it, it’s greyed out and says you can’t buy it):
OPTION 2: Buy the 2021 Legendary Bundle, as the unlock is part of that purchase. (I didn’t say it was a cheap option!)
HOW CAN I TELL IT TOOK PROPERLY?
There may be bugs left to be fixed (namely the Verne, Qul’poH, and Sui’Mor Temporal Science Vessels still being faction-locked), but for the most part, go to a character of a certain faction and look at your Ships in the C-Store:
This picture was taken on a KDF character (notice the Klingon symbol next to my character’s name), and I’m able to claim the Legendary Temporal Flight-Deck Carrier (part of the 10th Anniversary Bundle, which was Federation only at the time). I know my unlock worked.
I know that was short (and probably “Well, DUH!”, to most of my readers, but perhaps I currently or will have returning players looking for info), but I’ll be working on much longer blogs relating to the 2021 Legendary Bundle.
