Good morning, fellow STO players (or those with an interest)! Welcome back to Joe and STO!

This morning, I wanted to give a tutorial on how the whole business of buying and using a Mudd’s Choice Pack works.

For reference, I’ve done 3 articles talking about the value of the packs:

If, after reading those, you still want to buy a Choice Pack (or one comes up in the future that you like), this tutorial will help you navigate:

  • Buying a Choice Pack
  • Finding the Choice Pack in your Inventory
  • Using the Choice Pack
  • Finding your Ship Rewards from the Choice Pack
    • I assume all other non-ship rewards go straight to your Inventory, but account-wide reclaims may be difficult to find if you’re new to this.

Without further ado, let’s get started, shall we?

CHECK THAT YOU HAVE ENOUGH ZEN!

First of all, and it should go without saying but just in case, make sure you have enough Zen for the Bundle. The prices we’ve generally seen are:

  • 29,500 Zen – normal price
  • 14,750 Zen – 50% Off (regular introductory pricing and for when a pack’s being removed)
  • 11,800 Zen – 60% Off (once)
  • 7,375 Zen – 75% Off (once)

As of the time of writing this, all 3 Choice Packs are available for 7,375 Zen (and that’s reflected in the pictures below). However, once 1:00 PM Eastern on Christmas Eve hits, I expect that to go back to just “Mudd’s Choice Pack of Dread!” and to the full 29,500 Zen price.

*waits for you to get your Zen*

Back? Good. Let’s get to the actual tutorial.

BUYING THE CHOICE PACK OF…WELL, YOUR CHOICE

Now that you have your Zen, let’s buy the pack.

First, open the Z-Store (referred to as “C-Store” by most everyone else, but the icon is a little coin emblazoned with a “Z”). (NOTE: The C-Store is already opened in this picture, but I highlighted where the C-Store icon is.)

Next, navigate to “Mudd’s Market” on the left-hand tabs, then the “Bundles” top tab, then single-click the Choice Pack you want to buy. All are highlighted by the in-game UI in the image above.

Go down to “Buy – [insert price here] Z” and click it.

When you click “Buy – [insert price here] Z”, you’ll get a confirmation window asking if you want to buy that specific Choice Pack (here, Choice Pack of Dread!). Double-check that the pack mentioned is the one you want, then click “OK.”

You have now bought a Choice Pack!…but no ships are showing up. WHY!?

FINDING YOUR CHOICE PACK

This is probably because your Choice Pack is in your Inventory. I pointed it out in this pic, and you can see the tooltip for the Choice Pack. Check your inventory before thinking the C-Store didn’t recognize your Choice Pack purchase. I almost accidentally clicked “Choice Pack of Dread” again on another account because it was late at night and I almost forgot that giving you the box is kind of a quiet thing in the UI.

Note the pack is Bound to Account.

A word of warning here for the Faith of the Heart Choice Pack: A Reddit user indicated a KDF character cannot claim the “NX Escort Refit [T6]” if they open the Faith of the Heart Bundle. If you bought any Bundle you don’t want claimed on a certain character, the Choice Pack is “Bound to Account,” meaning you can use the Account Bank (if you’ve bought any slots or were gifted any in giveaways long ago) to transfer this Choice Box to another character for them to open.

  • As an aside, it’s not that KDF don’t get anything from the NX Escort Refit choice, it’s that they can’t claim the NX Escort Refit itself from the Choice Pack. If a Federation character opens the Choice Pack, they can choose “NX Escort Refit” as it’s limited to use by Federation characters. KDF characters then can reclaim an NX Escort Refit Equipment Pack with the ship’s trait and console (normally 450 Lobi or bought on the Exchange).

That warning out of the way, another general warning: It seems all items in this pack that aren’t the account-unlock Lockbox/Lobi/Promo ships are Bound to Account, including the Keys (as best I’ve heard). Be careful what you pick; you don’t want to buy Keys to sell on the Exchange just to find they’re bound to your account.

USING THE CHOICE PACK & CLAIMING YOUR GOODIES

So let’s say you’re settled on the character that will open the Choice Pack you chose. How do you use it?

Either double-click on the Choice Pack box, or right-click (left-click for lefties?) and select, “Use.”

This opens up a huuuuuge list of choices!…but you only get 3 at a time. You’ll click each option you want. Here you’ll see I checkmarked the 3 ships that will be account-unlocked once I confirm.

You can mix and match as much as you’d like. From what’s shown in the pic above, you can go:

  • Paradox and 2 of the “(2x Pack) T6 Ship Coupon – 100% Off.”
  • Hur’q Vedcrid, Tholian Tarantula, and 1 “(50x Pack) Master Keys.”
  • 3 “(50x Pack) Master Keys” (making for 150 total Keys)
  • 2 “(50x Pack) Master Keys” and 1 “(10x Pack) Ultimate Tech Upgrades.”

Once you’ve made your choices, hit “Accept” at the bottom

You’ll see your rewards listed above the chat window.

If you’re like me and chose the account-wide unlocks, you’ll notice you got…6 ships? Huh?

Not so fast!

The items next to the Purple arrows are the actual “reward boxes” since it’s your first claim of those ships on any character.

You’ll see those specific boxes in your inventory.

The “other 3 ships” are just notices that they’re now available whenever you wish via Mudd’s Market.

FINDING YOUR SHIPS: FUTURE CLAIMS OF THE ACCOUNT-WIDE SHIPS

So now you’re on another character, you go to the “Ships” main tab on the left and the “Tier 6” upper tab…and find nothing.

WHAT GIVES!?

…because they’re not C-Store ships. They’re Mudd’s Market ships.

Go to “Mudd’s Market” on the left, then “Ships” at the top.

You’ll notice I have 6 of these ships on this account. Where are my Vedcrid, Tarantula, and Paradox!?

…look more closely…

*waits*

Do you need me to literally highlight it? Sheesh, fine! (…I was gonna do that, anyway.)

Now all you have to do going forward to claim those ships is to navigate to Mudd’s Market, hit the “Ships” tab, and select the ship(s) you want. They’ll reward as “Special Requisition Packs”, so you’ll still need to unbox them. As for Admiralty, they should be auto-claimed as long as you’ve opened the ship(s) on at least one character.

Let me hit one exception…when a Federation character opens the “Faith of the Heart” Choice Pack and chooses the NX Escort Refit as one of their ships of choice, the KDF normally would get nothing. However, they will get something: the equipment box with the NX Refit’s console and trait!

This is currently the only way to account-unlock free reclaims of the Point Defense Bombardment Warhead console and Preferential Targeting starship trait on KDF players.

You go to the same place as the other ships: Mudd’s Market left-hand tab and the “Ships” top tab, and scroll the list until you find “NX Escort Refit Equipment Box.”

GOTTA WALK THROUGH MUDD TO GET THE GOLD

One other general helpful hint: anything you unlock from Mudd’s Market is reclaimable via Mudd’s Market. This includes:

  • Ground/Space items.
  • Corrosive Plasma space weapon boxes (infinitely relcaimable, so you can end up with the weapon type(s) you want).
  • BOFFs
  • Ships

Note that Choice Packs do not become account-unlocked; it’s only the Lockbox, Lobi, and/or Promo ships that become unlocked by being directly awarded on making those specific choices from the Choice Pack.

ENJOY CHEATING THE CHEATER

Late last night, I wrote up how, no matter how you cut this, the asking price at 75% off is well worth the ship contents. If you also feel that way and have the disposable income to spend on it, by all means go right at it. Enjoy your new ships (or the Lobi you needed for a ship, or the Phoenix ship from Stealing Time, or…)!
